Amazing news Darrel - so pleased to hear this! I also love that Dylan song. The dub reggae artist Keith Hudson also released a nice cover of it in 1974: https://youtu.be/Asp-NiJMSV8?si=CiapPAoiUN-dFvka
As for the question of patients' agency in their own recovery, my own preference is to think it's not up to me. My family makes fun of me because, whenever I'm ill, I just want the doctor to fix me--like taking a car to the mechanic. I don't want the responsibility burden of healing myself--or of failing to heal myself!
As for being cured of cancer, I call it a cure when the probability of a recurrence is the same as someone my age's getting cancer for the first time. That is never zero.
I'm happy to think of you enjoying the next weeks of freedom.
Wonderful news! All best wishes for an infection-free homecoming. You are right about fragility. I've had sepsis twice, and it is scary. Once I actually argued with my doctor about whether to go to the ER, like an idiot. My temp was above 103F and I'm on an immunosuppressant drug, so the danger was real. Luckily, I responded to the massive antibiotics they gave me, by infusion. So my message is simple: if you suddenly spike a high temp, go immediately to the ER. Immediately!! I hope you won't need to heed this advice of course. Wishing you and Andrea strength and happiness in the years to come. Lynne

That is is a very interesting way to think about what a cure could be, Alison.
Congrats Darrel, I hope things continue to go well. And your point about agency is a good one, and applies to many more contexts.
