It is great that you work right now

on the memoir of your first transplant for publication as „The Examined Illness“. With the review of that tough time you examine the benchmark for the present tough time and you will help others with the publication of your experiences.

This is beautiful. It ties together some of the experiences we talked about. The idea you share, that after the first grueling round you thought you'd "ticked the blood cancer box," is really powerful. It reveals how able we often are (even in the grip of extreme illness and its aftermath) to protect ourselves from confronting our fundamental, raw finitude and the unpredictability of life. But then when it's put right in your face it makes the kind of innocent optimism you 'enjoyed' difficult (impossible?) to return to. I really appreciate how you relish and grab hold of life – learning, teaching, writing, love, movies, concerts...!
